Bands started to become popular in Japan and other Asian countries and this has spread worldwide from there. Psy’s Gangnam style particularly helped to spread the genre with this infamous pop song. It even became the most-viewed YouTube video ever! Today we’re going to test your knowledge on K-Pop history to see how much you know about the genre!
Gangnam Style!
Psy's Gangnam style received an incredible 2.8 billion views on YouTube. It is still some people’s only knowledge of the Korean pop music industry and introduced the world to this fun music genre. The song is about the trendy residents of the Gangnam district of Seoul. It’s the only K-pop song to be mentioned by Barack Obama when he met President Park Geun-hye in 2013. It was also called a force for peace by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
