Will Smith landed the Fresh Prince role by chance after he had gotten into financial trouble and was urged by his then-girlfriend to check out a taping of the Arsenio Hall show. It was there that he ran into Benny Medina who asked him if he wanted to be on the show. Will was reluctant since he hadn't acted before. After reviewing the script sometime later at a party, Will auditioned on the spot and got the role. Little did he know it would spark a career of family-friendly content that spanned decades.
